India, the world’s second most populous country, is experiencing increasing pressure and violence against Christians. Reports indicate that since the current ruling party took power in 2014, a climate of tolerance of Hindu nationalism resulting in increasing persecution is rising dramatically. Leaders have vowed to rid the country of Christians and all other religions by 2021. In 2018 alone, more than 12,000 attacks against Christians have been reported. People who convert to Christianity from a Hindu background bear the brunt of this widespread violence. Christians make up less than 5% of the population of more than 1.3 billion people. It is our privilege and responsibility to come alongside our brothers and sisters facing persecution as they live out the Gospel.
