In the spring of 2015 Global Outreach began helping support House of Refuge, an orphanage in Yangon, Myanmar. Last month we were privileged to visit House of Refuge and personally meet Pastor Cyrus, his wife, Rebecka, and all the children.
Early this month in a blog post we shared how after visiting and ministering to another congregation in the morning, we were able to join the children at House of Refuge for a worship service in the afternoon. You can read more about that service and how impressed we were with these children here.
Pastor Cyrus and Rebecka, who have two young daughters, care for these sixteen children by themselves at great personal sacrifice. Cyrus just informed us they are planning to accept six additional children from a region experiencing war and strife.

After the service we enjoyed a special lunch they had prepared for us, the children and the community members who attended the service. It was a special meal because it included meat, which they normally only eat one time per month. They told us that some of the children and elderly attending the church services eat with them on the weekends because they don’t have food at home.

We were very impressed with the children at House of Refuge orphanage and the personal sacrifice of Pastor Cyrus and his wife Rebecka as they care for their own children and these orphans in need.
Last year, Cyrus had shared the need for a water treatment system. In his words,
water is oily and smelly, it’s color changes into yellow after four or five hours of pumping in the water storage tank. Due to using dirty water, we all often suffer from stomach pain and diarrhea. The children get rashes and itchy skin from bathing in the water.

When we saw the water storage system they are using, we realized the problem is even worse than he described. We now feel an urgency to help them get clean water and a means to store it safely. The total cost to supply the orphanage with safe water is $1,900. They already have a well but need a water treatment filtration engine, tower, and storage tank.

We came away from our time at House of Refuge with an even stronger desire to help Pastor Cyrus and Rebecka as they care for these precious children. Not only do they feed them and send them to school, they also help the older children receive vocational training and help them become productive adults.
House of Refuge is a perfect fit for the type of ministries that Global Outreach supports. It is a ministry that is clearly changing lives.
