Since 2007 the pastors and leaders of Feed My People in India have been actively involved in rescuing teen girls from brothels and other types of promiscuous behavior. Many of these girls have found themselves in circumstances where they had no control. Extreme poverty, personal hardships, and poor choices contributed to others ending up in prostitution. The good news is that 400 girls in these and similar circumstances have been rescued and brought into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

The girls are brought from many villages to the Feed My People headquarters in Tenali, Andra Pradesh, India. They have the opportunity to complete a two year medical training program as well as attend Bible College. The girls live on the third floor of the building which also houses 85 orphan children, a primary school for the orphans, and vocational training programs.

When we visited in Tenali and spent time with the teen girls, we were impressed with their sweet and loving natures. You may remember the girls wanted to be given stickers and balloons like we had brought for the orphan children. Mary Grace, wife of Reverend Thomas, who leads Feed My People, told of the many hours and nights she spends with the girls, teaching them about a new way of life and eventually introducing them to Jesus. She said it is not always easy, and some of the girls run away from the home to return to their old ways. They have shared stories of later finding the girls in different villages, or the girls returning on their own to be accepted back into the program. Mary Grace has such a precious spirit and is willing to pour herself into the lives of these teens.
This year, graduation for the girls was held on May 19th with 28 girls completing their course of study.
This year, graduation for the girls was held on May 19th with 28 girls completing their course of study. Over the past seven years 25 of the girls have continued on for advanced training such as nursing school. You may remember that we provided scholarships for two teens in India last year and plan to continue to help them and other students for the new school year. Most of the other graduates of the program have been able to find jobs within the medical field. Many of them now support themselves by working in medical clinics and doctor’s offices, or as lab technicians and midwives.

Please remember these girls in your prayers as the new school year will begin soon. The village pastors are currently seeking girls who may need this opportunity and Reverend Thomas says they are hoping to have 30 new girls join the program this summer. If you would like to help any of the girls, please designate your gifts for the scholarship program or the teen girls in India. We would also like to purchase a Bible for each of the girls. There are many expenses to feed, clothe and train the girls, but I can think of no better investment than helping these precious young girls transition from a life of entrapment to a new life of freedom in Christ.
